New York City International Bridal Week is the place to get the inside scoop on the latest wedding gown trends. Twice a year, bridal designers from around the globe converge on Pier 84 and around the city to unveil their newest collections.
Plenty of traditional ball gowns walked the runways this year, but what was on trend for many of the Fall 2016 collections was quite revealing. From illusion panels to peak-a-boo cutouts to crop tops, many of the designs will have fashion-forward brides saying “I do” in sexy dresses that leave little to the imagination. The most exciting thing about the body-conscious trend was how beautifully crafted the gowns were. Each had an intricate design of appliques, feathers, lace or beads placed just so to create the perfect balance of coverage and transparency. Our favs: Vera Wang, Reem Acra and Alon Livne.
Fashion insiders attribute the trend to sheer looks that celebrities have worn on the red carpet lately. Think Beyonce in Givenchy and Jennifer Lopez in Versace at the Met Gala in May and you’ve found your inspiration. And, really, what bride wouldn’t want to look as fabulous as as a celebrity on the red carpet on her wedding day?
